Another call for help…Bella’s story is a sad one. Bella had been living alone in an apartment since both of her people passed away. The building superintendent would go in daily to feed and clean up after her, but poor Bella cried all the time. To make matters worse, Bella showed serious neurological issues – a wobbly walk, and she’d occasionally tip over. Due to both her condition, and her people being sick, Bella had also gained a considerable amount of weight and hadn’t been outside in months.
What we found when we went to meet Bella broke our hearts more than we eve expected.
As we climbed the stairs to the tiny, dark apartment where Bella lived, we heard her sad, lonely cries. As soon as we entered, Bella immediately pulled herself up and started to walk towards us.
The best way to describe how Bella has been walking for the past two years is this …think of an animal who you have seen trapped on an icy pond. All four of her legs are constantly splayed and Bella’s entire body shakes. It was very clear that poor Bella is in pain. But that’s not all.
Bella was completely heartbroken, confused and afraid. Her entire world had changed. She didn’t know where her best human friend had disappeared to, and seemed to be looking for him. She gave us a few nervous licks on our hands, but also a few fearful growls before she warmed up. We completely understood how Bella felt, and gave her the space she needed to feel comfortable.
The next day, Bella’s new life began. Bella is now in a loving foster home.going to need time, vet care, love, and understanding. She is getting the attention that she’s needed for so long, and has started to heal, both physically and emotionally.
A week later, Bella got to enjoy a day at the beach. Life for Bella was already so much better.
